killjoylives replied to your post: Predatory loans post is joke yes? the fuck is wrong with you niggas? how do you not understand this? the phrase “predatory” implies someone forces you at gunpoint to borrow money from them… but nobody forces anyone to take out a loan. sure it might have a really high interest rate but once again if you don’t like the interest rate...

ourben replied to your post: Predatory loans post is joke yes? You don’t think society forces people to try anything to succeed? No. Why would you believe that? I will admit there are social pressures to succeed and “keep up with the joneses” but that’s still a choice people make of their own free will. It’s not even a choice made under duress or coercion.

How can you possibly say the guy who wants to end the drug wars policies are racist? I mean the guy wants to end a policy that, for 40 years, has enslaved more people of color than straight-up slavery. That is pretty fucking non-racist if you ask me.

I studied math & philosophy during my undergraduate career. I just got my BA in Pure Mathematics w/ a minor in Philosophy. My main point of interest was analytic philosophy (hence the Quine icon). I’m currently in the process of...

Ron Paul is a Pragmatic Choice
I don’t deny there are certain socially questionable things about the guy. He is honestly an old-school 1930s conservative. But I mean, look at what the President can do. The President does not pass social laws about race. The President does not create legislation. The President controls foreign policy. And I’m pretty sure that Ron Paul has the sanest foreign policy out of any other...

pragmatic libertarianism
I think if I had to assign some sort of label to my own philosophical beliefs, that would be it. Basically I’m a libertarian not out of some religious, dogmatic adherence to some “non-aggression principle” or any other sort of ethical code, but rather because I think a society in which each person is free to make decisions for themselves leads, necessarily, to a society which...

Mises as a Philosopher of Economics
what I really enjoy about reading Mises is how he uses the science of economics as a philosophical platform for a broader scope of ideas. Namely, the function that a priori reasoning can play in the social sciences. That is what fascinates me most about praxeology.
